UNESCO Venice and Interpret Europe – European Association for Heritage Interpretation have launched the initiative “Learning landscapes.” The aim is, by implementing heritage interpretation tools and strategies, by the end of 2025, specific regions listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as other potentially interested regions, to be transformed into an interpretive hubs.
This is a completely new, innovative approach to promoting both the natural and cultural heritage’s sustainability. It’s something particularly needed in regions listed as UNESCO sites, but such an initiative is also necessary in other places where through the direct application of interpretive planning, not only will the management level be raised, but also a deep awareness of heritage within the local population.
As the national coordinator for Interpret Europe in Macedonia, I will attend a meeting with representatives of UNESCO and Interpret Europe sometime in May. Immediately afterward, I’ll be able to share information firsthand with all interested parties. A few days ago, a brief announcement about this initiative was published, which can be read at the following link.
If certain regions in Macedonia or any other country are interested in applying for this initiative, they can contact me at the following email address: vasilka.dimitrovska@interpret-europe.net
